This article discusses the need for a novel approach to addressing vitamin A deficiency (VAD) using appropriate technology. VAD can lead to night blindness and other serious health issues, particularly in pregnant women and young children. The article introduces a technology called EmTech A metre, which measures light intensity to indirectly predict VAD. A study was conducted on children aged 3-6 years to assess the effectiveness of the EmTech A metre in reducing VAD. The results showed a significant reduction in light requirements after vitamin A supplementation, indicating the effectiveness of the program and the instrument. The article suggests conducting further studies to determine the standard sensitivity and specificity of the instrument. [Extracted from the article] |
