The use of biodiesel as a substitute for fossil fuels still leaves many problems including deposit formation in the combustion chamber and injectors. The deposit formation in diesel engines can influence engine performance (reduced power and increased fuel consumption). The aim of this study was to determine the deposits formation of biodiesel fuel B20 and B30 using Hot Chamber Deposition Test Rig. The mechanism of this test rig is the evaporation and deposition of biodiesel fuel which is carried out repeatedly on a hot plate in the combustion chamber so that the deposition characteristics that occur can be obtained. The temperature variations of the plates and the combustion chamber used in this test rig are close to the actual engine conditions. The results show that the higher viscosity and density of biodiesel B30 will affect longer evaporation time and give time for the biodiesel B30 to form a larger deposit surface. Biodiesel B30 has poorer deposition characteristics than biodiesel fuel B20, so it will increase the deposits formation in the engine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
