Calculations show that the daily maximum electrical power for charging electric vehicles in the Moscow energy system when transitioning from gasoline and diesel fuel to electricity can range from 9.6 to 28.4 GW. The additional volume of fuel for electricity generation in the Moscow energy system may amount to 35% of the current consumption. An increase in electrical energy consumption for charging electric vehicles leads to a deterioration in the electrical load conditions of generating equipment. Currently, when assessing the environmental efficiency of electric vehicles, emissions of harmful substances resulting from wear of tires, pads, and road surfaces are not taken into account. The transition to electric vehicles will increase emissions rather than reduce them, even without taking the additional emissions from increased fuel consumption at power plants into account.
