Abstrakt: A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom has found that elevated skin autofluorescence (SAF), which measures the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in tissue, is a strong predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in individuals receiving hemodialysis. The study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of SAF trend for predicting mortality in a hemodialysis population. The findings showed that an increasing SAF trend and higher baseline SAF were independent predictors of increased mortality. The researchers suggest that strategies to reduce or prevent the increase in SAF should be investigated further to improve outcomes for individuals receiving hemodialysis.
