The article discusses Sellick's manoeuvre, a technique used during tracheal intubation to prevent gastric content aspiration. While the efficacy of cricoid pressure in mitigating aspiration is yet to be scientifically validated, it has gained widespread acceptance and is an important component of rapid sequence intubation. However, there are challenges and controversies associated with the technique, including difficulties in laryngoscopy and potential complications such as hindered ventilation and increased regurgitation risk. The article also mentions new devices and techniques that aim to enhance the effectiveness of Sellick's manoeuvre. [Extracted from the article] |
