The article explores the decipherment of the Maya script expression T78: 514 and its various substitutions. The author discusses different proposals for the meaning of T78: 514, including "fellow, companion," "portrait, property," and "spear-fellow, spear-edge." They argue that the most viable solution is a pair of near-homophones that represent the relationship between a captor and a captive in military contexts. The article also considers the possibility that T78: 514 is connected to the concept of "sacred service for the gods." The author provides linguistic and archaeological evidence to support their interpretations. [Extracted from the article] |
