The article discusses the experiences of female migrant workers in Bhutan's liquor industry, specifically focusing on their economic and gendered vulnerabilities. The majority of the workforce in the Himalayan Distillery, a prominent liquor factory, consists of single women labor migrants. While employment in the factory offers financial independence and higher wages compared to their home villages, these women also face challenges such as inadequate housing, limited privacy, and negative social stigma. The article highlights the complex interplay between economic and gendered vulnerabilities for these women, as well as their resilience and determination to support themselves and their children.
