IoT-based safety management for road transportation.

Abstrakt: The alarming rate of rise in road accidents throughout the world has led to the necessity for driver monitoring systems and other safety measures to be followed by them while driving. Therefore, various IoT-based prototypes, systems, and mechanisms are developed by researchers to minimize the incidents on road. Diverse mechanisms have been proposed to enhance the traffic conditions and minimize congestion. However, the number of casualties due to road accidents is increasing rapidly. We explored the risks involved with the road transportation industry and the tools developed by researchers to evaluate it. Further, we provide an exhaustive outline of the prevailing research works related to safety for manual driven as well as autonomous vehicles. Additionally, we discuss the architecture – Safety-as-a-Service (Safe-aaS), which delivers safety-associated information to the customers dynamically. We find the research lacunae involved and discuss the future research directions regarding the safety of individuals.
