Charlotte Katzoff of Bar Ilan University has applied concepts from Anglophone analytic philosophy to the exegesis of Hebrew biblical narratives in her book "Human Agency and Divine Will: The Book of Genesis." Katzoff explores key episodes from Genesis and Exodus, presenting dialectical progressions of exegetical and philosophical alternatives before offering her own original perspective. She discusses topics such as temptation in the Garden of Eden, matriarchal knowledge, Abraham's faith, Isaac's deception, Jacob's atonement, and Joseph's sale into Egypt. Katzoff's book demonstrates the applicability of philosophical analysis to biblical exegesis and offers interesting insights into the minds of biblical heroes. [Extracted from the article] |
