Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitacion Luis Guillermo Ibarra Ibarra in Mexico City explored the use of cross-facial nerve grafts in patients with facial nerve palsy. The researchers aimed to compare clinical findings with electromyography (EMG) before and after the surgery. The study included eight patients with facial paralysis who underwent surgical reanimation of the facial nerve. The results showed significant improvements in clinical outcomes and EMG measurements after the surgery, suggesting that cross-facial nerve grafts can lead to improvement in facial paralysis. The researchers recommend postoperative EMG as an objective measure of evaluation in patients with delayed improvement. [Extracted from the article]
