A recent report from Federation University in Melbourne, Australia discusses the role of emotion regulation in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). The study found that difficulties in emotion regulation are a defining feature of ADHD, but may not be a diagnostic indicator for ADHD or ODD. Trait impulsivity was found to be core to ADHD, while affect lability did not predict ADHD or ODD symptoms.
