A new study from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany explores the link between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the development of psychopathological conditions. The study focuses on the role of associative learning in this relationship, specifically threat and reward learning processes. The researchers conducted a systematic review of 81 articles and found that individuals with a history of ACEs exhibited blunted threat learning and attenuated reward learning. These findings suggest that ACEs may impact the normative maturation of learning processes and contribute to the development of psychopathology. The study highlights the need for further research in this area and discusses potential future directions. [Extracted from the article] |
