A recent study conducted in Bangladesh has highlighted the high rates of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, a condition that can lead to neurologic disability and death if left untreated. The study focuses on the use of community health workers (CHWs) to provide screening and treatment for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in rural areas. The CHWs will administer phototherapy, a treatment that uses light-emitting diode (LED) technology, to newborns with elevated levels of bilirubin. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach and potentially expand access to healthcare for vulnerable newborns in low- and middle-income countries. [Extracted from the article] |
