A report from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) discusses the relationship between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ambient particulate matter (PM) in air pollution. The study found that exposure to PM did not exacerbate intestinal inflammation in acute colitis models. The research suggests that while IBD is a complex disorder with genetic, microbial, and environmental risk factors, PM may not be a contributing factor to the development or worsening of the disease.
