A recent study conducted by researchers from Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, assessed the safety and neurotoxicity of sirolimus-eluting stents (SESs) in the treatment of intracranial atherosclerosis. The study involved implanting stents into the basilar arteries of Labrador Retrievers and analyzing blood, tissue, and brain samples. The results showed that the SESs released the drug gradually over time, with minimal systemic and brain tissue concentrations. The study concluded that SESs are a safe and viable therapeutic option for high-grade intracranial atherosclerosis. [Extracted from the article] |
