Abstrakt: Researchers at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China have discovered a new ruthenium(II) complex that induces a form of cell death called oncosis. This complex targets the nucleus and mitochondria of cells, disrupting DNA and triggering a series of events that lead to cell membrane rupture. The researchers found that this oncosis-inducing complex also activates both innate and adaptive immunity, promoting dendritic cell maturation and the activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. This research provides insights into the mechanisms of oncosis and its correlation with immune response, potentially leading to the development of more effective cancer chemotherapy regimens.
