Abstrakt: Reading the Way is a project by Prison Reading Groups (PRG) that aims to promote reading enjoyment and skills among prisoners. Inspired by a report on reading education in prisons, the project conducted pilot reading groups for emergent readers in two prisons. The evaluation of the pilot process highlighted the importance of autonomy, choice, and personalization in reading groups, as well as recognizing multiple ways to be a "good" reader. The text explores Practice Engagement Theory and emergent readers in adult literacy education, referencing the work of Stephen Reder. It concludes by discussing the success of the pilot program and the potential for expanding reading culture in prisons. [Extracted from the article]
