Experimental study of cement concrete using EOF steel slag to replace cement as partial replacement.

Abstrakt: The construction industry's most considerable utilization and important natural resources is depleting very high than ever is the cement production sources. This current scenario has led to explore and exploit alternate materials which can be environmentally friendly without compensating the durability and strength properties. One industrial waste byproducts of steel production are steel slag, which accumulates 12 tonnes per year. It has already been extensively used as an alternative for fine and coarse aggregate in cement concrete making and has given on-par results with conventional concrete. From the study of available steel slag's in Salem, Tamilnadu, the chemical composition, the viability to be used as a partially replaced for cement is examined in this paper. This paper validates the experimental work highlighting the feasibility study for using Energy Optimizing Slag to replace cement in construction applications. The energy optimising furnace (EOF) slag is a byproduct in steel making process which uses oxygen (O2) blown into an initial charge of hot metal. The experiment investigates the partial cement replacement of EOF steel slag in the volume fractions of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The mechanical characteristics of the concrete mix for the M30 grade were planned. During the 7th and 28th days after being cast for the different volume fractions, the specimens' slump value, cube compressive strength, cylinder split tensile strength, and prism flexural strength were evaluated.
