A recent study conducted at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, explored the coexistence of lupus mastitis and sarcoidosis in a 62-year-old female patient. Both conditions are rare manifestations of autoimmune disorders and are characterized by non-specific mammographic and sonographic features. The patient, who had a known diagnosis of discoid lupus and Graves' disease, presented with an abnormal screening mammogram and subsequently underwent a mammographic work-up and biopsy. The findings revealed lupus mastitis, including vasculitis, panniculitis, and fibrosis with chronic inflammation, as well as small non-caseating granulomas, which are typically seen in sarcoidosis. This case highlights the atypical presentation and the coexistence of these autoimmune processes. [Extracted from the article] |
