Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted by investigators at Boston University examined the timing of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis (VTEp) in polytrauma patients undergoing high-risk bleeding orthopedic interventions. The study found that initiating VTEp more than 12 hours after orthopedic surgery was associated with an increased risk of VTE. However, earlier initiation of prophylaxis did not increase the risk of surgical reintervention. The researchers concluded that clinicians should reconsider delays in initiating or withholding perioperative VTEp for stable polytrauma patients needing major orthopedic intervention.
