A report from the University of Gondar in Ethiopia discusses the relationship between facial cleanliness and trachoma, a disease that can cause blindness. The study used photographs of children's faces and conjunctiva, as well as conjunctival swabs, to assess the presence of trachoma and measures of an unclean face. The researchers found that dry ocular discharge had the strongest association with trachoma, but all measures of facial uncleanliness were significantly associated with the disease.
