Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers at the Federal University of Sao Paulo examined interpersonal violence against people with intellectual disabilities in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The study found that individuals with intellectual disabilities are highly vulnerable to various forms of violence, particularly children and adolescents who are black or brown and have low levels of education. The perpetrators of violence are typically known or related to the victims, and referrals made by health professionals often do not prioritize the safety and human rights of the victims. The study suggests the need for specialized care for victims of violence, taking into account the unique challenges faced by people with intellectual disabilities. [Extracted from the article]
