Photocatalytic activity of CuO nanoparticles synthesized by hydrothermal method.

Abstrakt: In the present paper, we have studied the crystalline, optical, and photocatalytic activity of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) synthesized by hydrothermal route. The prepared material was characterized by using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometry, x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and FTIR analyses. XRD indicated the monoclinic phase of the CuO NPs with average crystallite size of 10.61 nm and crystallinity of 92.6% while strong and intense peaks for O and Cu atoms from EDX further confirms the synthesis CuO NPs. The optical bandgap energy was estimated to be 1.51 eV, and SEM images indicated roughly spherical-like particle morphology. The synthesized CuO NPs facilitated the decomposition of methylene blue (MB) under sun light illumination. Study on reaction kinetics revealed that the reaction obey the pseudo-first-order model with reaction rate constant of 0.002 min−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
