Abstrakt: Six samples of lead borate glass with rare earth Dy2O3 doping have been successfully fabricated using the melt quenching method at 950°C and annealed for 8 hours at 275°C. The composition used in this study is 45B2O3 − (40-x) PbO – 10ZnO – 5Na2O – xDy2O3 (where x=0; 0,2; 0,4; 0,6; 0,8; and 1,0 mol%). The density test using the pycnometer method based on Archimedes' law and the refractive index measurement using the Brewster angle method have been successfully carried out. The results show that the glass density increased from 4.663 gr/cm3 to 5.394 gr/cm3 and the refractive index of glass increased from 1.4596 to 1.8176 as the Dy2O3 enhancement. The absorption peak of glass was measured using a Hitachi VH5300 UV-Vis spectrophotometer from 200 to 1100 nm. 5 peaks were found and located around 453, 752, 800, 900, and 1100 nm. Empirical approaches related to physical and optical properties are also carried out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
