Abstrakt: This article explores the movement of plants caused by climate change and human intervention, using the example of umbrella magnolias in Massachusetts. It delves into the debate surrounding the definition of "native" and its implications for conservation. The article also discusses the concept of assisted migration and the challenges faced by endemic wildflowers. It highlights the risks associated with non-native ornamentals and suggests that assisting the migration of native plants can help them survive extinction. The author emphasizes the need to consider the risks before moving native plants, but also highlights the opportunity to shape the future through informed choices about plant migration.
