This article provides an overview of the Placerville branch, a railway route in California. Originally intended for the first transcontinental railroad, it now serves as a local operation for Southern Pacific. Today, the route is used for various purposes, including freight, electric transit, recreational rides, and heritage railroads. The Placerville & Sacramento Valley Railroad (P&SVRR) is working to resume limited train operations in Folsom, California, but faces challenges due to the city's growth and the need to address grade crossing issues and repair inactive segments of track. The ultimate goal is to extend passenger service from Folsom to Shingle Springs, similar to the Niles Canyon Railway in the San Francisco Bay Area. [Extracted from the article] |
