Abstrakt: Background and Aim: Social trust and political participation are key factors for enhancing social cohesion and promoting the desirability of social changes, as they facilitate civic participation and collective action. This research explores the impact of social trust on the political participation of young people in Yazd city, Iran. The theoretical framework of the research is based on the theories of Paul Elzarsfland, Habermas, Inglehart, Coleman and Lipset. Methods and Data: This research uses a survey method to collect data from 400 young people in Yazd city, Iran. The research conducted among men and women aged 18 to 35 who have lived in Yazd city for at least five years and have participated in the elections at least once. Findings: The research measures trust in different domains including interpersonal relationships, political actors and institutions, educational institutions, service institutions, economic institutions, and religious institutions. The research finds that only interpersonal trust and trust in educational institutions moderately to highly correlate with political participation. The study also finds that only past electoral participation is moderately to high among the respondents. Our analysis reveals a significant relationship between the independent variables (types of trust) and the dependent variable (level of political participation). Conclusion: The research reveals that trust in the political system is the most important factor that influences political participation, while education is the least important factor. This result suggests that trust in the political system is a key determinant of political engagement among young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
