Researchers from Olabisi Onabanjo University conducted a study on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among residents of Sagamu local government area of Ogun State. The study aimed to determine the clinical predictors of OSA and its severity in a Nigerian population. The researchers found that increasing the number of risk factors for OSA, as reflected in the STOP-BANG questionnaire, increased the probability of having OSA and other severe diseases such as hypertension. The study also confirmed that the male gender was associated with a higher risk of OSA. Factors such as diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index, neck circumference, and neck height ratio were found to predict the risk of OSA. [Extracted from the article] |
