Abstrakt: A recent study from Sapienza University of Rome explores the role of imaging in the diagnosis and pre-treatment evaluation of cervical cancer. The study highlights the importance of incorporating imaging assessments into the staging of cervical cancer, as it can provide accurate information about the local spread of the disease, tumor size, and lymph node metastases. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is found to be the most effective imaging modality for detecting parametrial and stromal invasion. Additionally, positron emission tomography (PET) has shown promise in predicting pelvic nodal status during early-stage diagnosis. The research concludes that imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosis, tumor staging, and monitoring the progression of cervical cancer, providing physicians with valuable tools for treatment planning.
