A study conducted by researchers at Al-Azhar University examined the correlation between audiological and radiological findings in otosclerosis (OS). The study found that high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) imaging is a more sensitive and specific diagnostic tool for OS than audiometry. HRCT was able to discriminate between early and late OS with a high degree of accuracy. These findings suggest that HRCT can be used confidently in the diagnosis and staging of otosclerosis.
