A new study conducted by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras has found that there are asymptomatic malaria reservoirs in Honduras, which can contribute to disease transmission and pose a challenge to elimination efforts. The study focused on the community of Kaukira in Gracias a Dios, Honduras, and detected positive results for malaria in 17 out of 138 participants through highly sensitive molecular assays. The researchers concluded that public health authorities need to modify surveillance strategies to identify and treat this population accordingly. [Extracted from the article] |
