Abstrakt: A study conducted by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine found that unhoused children and adolescents have high rates of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The study aimed to examine the rates of psychiatric diagnoses, medical diagnoses, and emergency department (ED) utilization in unhoused children based on the presence of additional documented ACEs. The research revealed that unhoused children with additional ACEs were more likely to have psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, behavioral disorder, psychoses, bipolar disorder, suicidal ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder, and attention deficit hyperactive disorder. They were also more likely to have a prior psychiatric admission. The study highlights the increased risk of psychiatric and medical diagnoses in unhoused children with exposure to ACEs.
