A study conducted by researchers at Vietnam Military Medical University has developed a new assay for the detection of methylated SEPT9 (mSEPT9) in plasma, which shows promise for non-invasive colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. The assay utilizes extendable blocking probes (ExBP) to enhance the detection of low-level mSEPT9 based on DNA melting. It demonstrated a sensitivity of 73.91% and specificity of 80%, making it suitable for early detection and management of CRC, especially in resource-limited settings. Further studies are needed to validate the assay in larger populations and establish its clinical benefits. [Extracted from the article] |
