A recent report from the University of Ottawa discusses the rare neoplasms known as Wolffian tumor and STK11 adnexal tumor, which are thought to arise from mesonephric remnants. These tumors typically occur in the broad ligament, fallopian tube, and ovarian hilum, and while most have a good prognosis, up to 50% of STK11 adnexal tumors can be aggressive. The report highlights the morphologic and immunohistochemical similarities between these tumors and peritoneal mesothelioma, which can lead to misdiagnosis. It emphasizes the importance of considering Wolffian tumor and STK11 adnexal tumor in the differential diagnosis of pelvic and peritoneal mesotheliomas. [Extracted from the article] |
