Abstrakt: A recent report from the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein in Germany discusses the prescription of foot orthoses (FOs) by general practitioners (GPs) and orthopedic surgeons. The study found that there is inconsistency in the prescription of FOs due to limited medical guidelines and checklists. The survey conducted as part of the study revealed that FOs are most frequently prescribed for talipes valgus and heel spur. Custom-made FOs were prescribed more frequently than prefabricated FOs, and regular interaction within the prescription process was commonly with orthopedic technicians. The study concludes that there is a need for a uniform approach to the indication and prescription of FOs among physicians. [Extracted from the article]
