A recent report from the University of Seville in Spain explores the properties of gelatin-based hydrogels for drug delivery systems and tissue engineering. The study focuses on type-A-gelatin-based hydrogels and evaluates the impact of gelation temperature on their rheological and microstructural properties. The researchers found that lowering the gelation temperature improved the rheological properties of the hydrogels, while increasing the gelation temperature improved their critical strain at low temperatures. The study demonstrates the feasibility of producing hydrogels with different properties for potential applications in drug delivery by varying the testing temperature and incorporating drugs into the formulation.
