Abstrakt: This article highlights the issue of residual circulation in wave pools, which can negatively impact surfable wave quality over time. Residual circulation is caused by the interaction of periodic energy injections with complex bathymetry in water bodies like harbors, lakes, and estuaries. This circulation affects wave pools as well, resulting in small vortices that can contaminate surfing waves through wave-current interactions. The paper focuses on investigating and simulating residual circulation in a confined environment using OpenFOAM®, a 3D CFD model. The study starts with 2D decaying turbulence in confined boxes and continues with the 3D decaying turbulence and wavemaker driven turbulence in a wave pool similar to the Surf Lakes R&D full scale prototype in Yeppoon, QLD, Australia. The goal is to identify the sources of vortices, circulation trajectories, and kinetic energy within the pool. Solutions to restore tranquillity in the pool before a new wave set are explored. The application of this method to other coastal environments is also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
