Colostrum and milk fat provides energy and fatty acids for suckling piglets. Its composition depends on various factors. Type of dietary fat and its content in feed ration are the main nutritional factor affecting the fatty acid profile of sow colostrum and milk. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), transported from the sows to their progeny in colostrum and milk are necessary for proper piglets growth and development. PUFAs supplementation during late gestation and lactation, can increase their concentrations in colostrum and milk fat, and consequently in piglet tissues. The aim of this paper was to present the aspects connected with the influence of sow nutrition on the fatty acid profile of milk and suckling piglet tissues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
