Abstrakt: Changes in climate and the increasing number of animals raised in organic farming conditions require expanding the range of plant species used for forage. The aim of the present study was to study the biological manifestations of the nontraditional for the country species Trigonella foenum-graecum, assessing the possibility of its use as an alternative feed source in the Central Northern Bulgaria conditions. Phenological stages flowering and full maturity in fenugreek occured 52 and 94 days after germination, respectively, with accumulation of active temperature sums of 785 and 1735°C. The dynamics of dry biomass accumulation showed a significant increase from the growth phase (716.8 kg/ha) to budding, flowering, pod formation and milk maturity of seeds, with absolute values of 1270.7, 2339.8, 3605.6 and 4421.3 kg/ha. The biochemical analysis of the forage in the 5 stages of harvesting showed a variation as follows: CP – from 102.8 to 252.3 g/kg DM, CF – 112.8 - 243.7 g/kg DM, Ca – 12.3-18.7 g/kg DM, P – 3.1-4.4 g/kg DM, NDF – 184.9-406.4 g/kg DM, ADL – 24.7- 58.6 g/kg DM, IVDOM – 48.0-76.3 g/kg DM. The biomass harvested in the flowering phase was characterized by a very favorable biochemical composition: CP and CF - respectively 182.9 and 123.9 g/kg DM, NDF - 223.0 g /kg DM and IVDOM - 74.4%. Additional research is needed, where in experimental conditions, to establish the optimal participation and possibility of inclusion in the rations of different groups of animals.
