Facile room temperature synthesis of CoOOH for high-performance supercapacitor application: comparison with other metal oxyhydroxides (MOOH; M = Al, Mn or Fe).

Abstrakt: In this study, a facile synthesis of Cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) via the co-precipitation method at room temperature under vigorous stirring and compared the supercapacitor performance with that of manganese, aluminum, and iron oxyhydroxides. The prepared materials were confirmed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The structural and surface area were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Bruner-Emmert-Teller (BET) analyses. These materials were examined for their capacitance performance by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 1 M KOH aqueous electrolyte solution. Among these oxyhydroxides, CoOOH showed excellent capacitance than other oxyhydroxides. The CoOOH electrode exhibits a specific capacitance of 1096 F g− 1 at 25 mV s− 1 and 670 F g− 1 at 1 A g− 1 current density found from CV and GCD, respectively. Furthermore, the CoOOH electrode was investigated for cyclic stability and exhibited 91% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
