The article provides an overview of the conflict in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, which has been supported by the Islamic State. The Mozambican government initially faced defeats but received assistance from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in July 2021. By January 2024, the insurgency had been reduced to a guerilla force, raising hopes for the resumption of multinational gas projects. The article explores the background of the insurgency, the key actors involved, and the factors that may influence the conflict in the future. It also discusses the involvement of various military forces, including the Mozambican security forces, the Rwandan intervention, and the SADC Mission in Mozambique. The text further examines the role of local militias and their different methods and capabilities.
