A study conducted by researchers at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University compared the effectiveness of cervical cerclage (a surgical procedure to prevent premature birth) with a spontaneous follow-up strategy in women with visible or prolapsed fetal membranes. The study included 106 cases, with 76 patients undergoing cerclage and 21 patients receiving medical treatment without cerclage. The results showed that cervical cerclage significantly increased pregnancy duration and improved neonatal outcomes compared to the no-cerclage group. The study concluded that cervical cerclage performed before and after 24 weeks of gestation increased the take-home baby rate without increasing adverse maternal outcomes.
