A recent study conducted in Catania, Italy, focused on acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia. The researchers discovered a case of APL with basophilic differentiation and a three-way translocation involving chromosomes 12, 15, and 17. Basophilic differentiation is typically associated with a poor prognosis, but this patient responded well to standard treatment and achieved complete remission. This is the first reported case of basophilic APL with this specific translocation. Further information can be obtained from the Division of Hematology in Catania. [Extracted from the article] |
