A study conducted at Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey, investigated the relationship between the systemic immune inflammation (SII) index and the development of complications and mortality in type 2 diabetic retinopathy patients. The study included 523 patients and found that higher SII values were associated with acute-chronic renal failure, peripheral arterial disease, and hospitalization rates. The study concluded that high SII values may predict microvascular and macrovascular complications and mortality risk in patients with type 2 diabetic retinopathy. Factors such as comorbidities and inflammatory habits, like long-term smoking, should be considered in the clinical use of SII. [Extracted from the article] |
