A recent study conducted by researchers at Soochow University in China examined the effects of dual-tasking on gait performance in older adults with sarcopenia, a condition characterized by muscle loss. The study found that when participants with sarcopenia performed cognitive-motor or motor-motor dual tasks while walking, their gait parameters were negatively affected, including decreased gait frequency, step length, and step speed, as well as increased gait cycle and double-support phase. The researchers concluded that the increased difficulty in postural control caused by dual-task interference may reduce the safety of motor strategies in individuals with sarcopenia and increase the risk of falls.
