Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Soochow University in China examined the effects of dual-tasking on gait performance in older adults with sarcopenia, a condition characterized by muscle loss. The study found that when participants with sarcopenia performed cognitive-motor or motor-motor dual tasks while walking, their gait parameters were negatively affected, including decreased gait frequency, step length, and step speed, as well as increased gait cycle and double-support phase. The researchers concluded that the increased difficulty in postural control caused by dual-task interference may reduce the safety of motor strategies in individuals with sarcopenia and increase the risk of falls. They suggest that future studies should focus on exercise interventions to improve multitasking patterns and promote balance function in this population. [Extracted from the article]
