A case report and literature review from Yunnan, China, discusses a rare case of scrub typhus with meningitis. Scrub typhus is a febrile disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, and while it can affect multiple organs, central nervous system infections are uncommon. The report describes the case of a 17-year-old male who presented with fever and headaches, and was initially diagnosed with a central nervous system infection. However, further testing revealed scrub typhus with meningitis, and treatment with doxycycline was effective. The authors recommend considering scrub typhus with meningitis in patients with central nervous system infections who do not respond to conventional treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
