A study conducted by researchers from Gyeongsang National University Hospital in South Korea explores the role of SMARCD3 in gastric cancer. The study found that elevated levels of SMARCD3 were observed in signet ring cell (SRC) groups compared to well-differentiated (WD) groups in gastric cancer cell lines and tissues. Higher SMARCD3 expression was associated with poorer overall survival in gastric cancer patients. The study suggests that SMARCD3 overexpression may serve as a negative prognostic marker and a potential therapeutic target in gastric cancer treatment due to its role in promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
