Abstrakt: A recent study conducted in the Southwest region of Parana state in Brazil has found that rural female workers who are exposed to pesticides may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer. The region has higher rates of breast cancer diagnosis and mortality compared to the national average, as well as a higher volume of pesticide trade. Even women who did not work in the fields but performed tasks such as equipment decontamination and clothes washing of male partners who worked in the fields showed positive urine samples for pesticides. The study suggests the need to monitor rural populations exposed to pesticides in order to prevent breast cancer. [Extracted from the article]
