A recent study conducted at King Saud Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, examined the factors associated with failed extubation in adult critically ill patients. The study found that older age, longer duration of mechanical ventilation, faster respiratory rate, and lower pH were independent risk factors that significantly increased the odds of extubation failure. The research highlights the importance of considering these factors when making decisions about extubation in order to improve patient outcomes. The full study can be accessed for free online.
