Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Hannover Medical School in Germany examined the bibliometric rankings of researchers in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. The study found that female pharmacologists are highly underrepresented in elite pharmacology, and that achieving a high h-Index (a measure of research impact) requires pharmacologists to publish more papers than biochemists or biologists. The study also compared the bibliometric parameters of German pharmacology and toxicology and found that the two fields have similar cultures. The researchers concluded that bibliometric parameters should be given less emphasis in academic hiring and grant decisions, and that the societal and scientific impact of research should be considered instead.
